DAY 1 - PUERTO NATALES / TORRES DEL PAINE

Transfer from your hotel to the bus station in Puerto Natales. Departure from Puerto Natales around 2.30pm for the National Park Torres del Paine with a short stop at Cerro Castillo Village.
The Torres del Paine National Park is located between the Andean Cordillera and the Patagonian steppe. Its name comes from the granite formations, symbol of the park: Las Torres (the Towers) del Paine. The Torres del Paine National Park has been declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, due to its large variety of fauna and flora as well as its incredible landscapes. This Park is one of the best preserved across the planet. You will find an almost entirely unspoiled nature, animals such as foxes, huemules (type of local deer), condors, guanacos (type of Lama); as well as a very rich flora, with plants such as calafates, coihues, orchids… etc. You will be amazed by the incredible geography of the place, with its beautiful lakes and mountains (Torres del Paine and Los Cuernos being the most impressive), beautiful not only through their shape, but also through their contrast and colors.

You will enter through the Laguna Amarga area, where you must to acquire your entrance ticket (not included in our price), before taking the shuttle that will be waiting for you to bring you to Las Torres sector where the Refugio is located.
Dinner at the refuge. Night at the Torre Central Refuge.

Section

Difficulty level : high. Walk : 7 to 8hours – 13km.
Breakfast at the Refuge. Departure, on foot, for the 1st step of the W trek : 5 days 4 nights (guide NOT included – see additional options at the end of the program). Recommended time of departure: 9am
The first hour and a half walking is steep, with fantastic views of lake Nordenskjöld and Mt Almirante Nieto (2.670 m.s.n.m), with its hanging glacier – you will reach the Refugio El Chileno where you can rest briefly and leave your luggage. Then carrying just a small back pack, you will continue the trail through a millenary Lenga (beech trees) forest, for approximately 1 hour, until you reach the base of the moraine, with its challenging 45min climb. This will take you to one of the most impressive lookouts in the park: right at the base of the three Paine Towers – the Southern Tower (2,850 meters), the Central Tower (2.800 meters) and the Northern Tower (2.600 meters), as well as the Cerro Nido de Cóndor.
Packed-lunch during the walk. Night at the El Chileno Refuge.

N.B.: In the case where there is no available space at the El Chileno Refuge, you will be housed at the Torre Central Refuge.

DAY 3 - TORRES DEL PAINE/ Hike from El Chileno until Los Cuerno Refugio

Difficulty level: intermediate. Walk : 4 to 5h – 11km.
Breakfast at the Refuge. Recommended time of departure: 9am
About 30 minutes after leaving the Refugio El Chileno you will notice the sign to take the “shortcut” that leads to the Refugio Los Cuernos. The trail goes past the foot of Mt Almirante Nieto, part of the Paine Massif, with great views of the Nordenskjöld Lake. Starting in December, the flora shows various colors, especially the “Ciruelillo” (aka Fire Bush) which gets its name from the red color of its flowers. After about 4 to 5 hours walking, you will arrive at the foot of Los Cuernos where our Refugio is located, considered by many, as one of the most charming sites in the entire park. This is a perfect spot to rest and recover energy for the next day’s challenging trek: “The French Valley”.
Packed-lunch during the hike. Dinner at the Refuge. Night at the Refugio Los Cuernos

N.B.: We advise that you arrive early enough to rest for the next day.
N.B.: If you start off from the Torre Central Refuge, the trail is of similar length.

DAY 4 - TORRES DEL PAINE: Hike until the French Valley

Difficulty level : high. Walk: 10 to 12h – 25.3km.
Breakfast at the Refuge. Recommended time of departure : 9am
The first 2 hours vary between up and down hills and with lookouts over the Nordenskjöld Lake, all the way until “Campamento Italiano”. At this point, we recommend you contact the CONAF staff so you can leave your big backpack with them and start the next part of the trek with only a small day backpack. The climb lasts about 1h30 until the French Glacier lookout, where you will be able to observe its hanging glacier and may have the opportunity to see some small avalanches. After that, the trail continues until “Campamento Británico” after which you will only have 20 minutes left until you reach the lookout considered by many as the most overwhelming of this entire trek: “Mirador Británico”. From here you can admire: “Paine Grande”, “Cerro Hoja”, “Cerro Máscara”, “Cerro Catedral”, “Cerro Aleta de Tiburón”, “Cuerno Norte”, and other peaks and mountains. Follow the same trail to return to the “Campamento Italiano”, and then to Pehoé sector.
Packed-lunch during the hike. Dinner at the Refuge. Night at the Paine Grande Lodge.

Difficulty level : intermediate. Walk : 8 to 9h – 22km.
Breakfast at the Refuge. Recommended hour of departure : 9am.
Trek to the Grey Glacier lookout (round trip). The trail goes through the western side of the Paine Massif with views across the Lago Grey and the mountains. After 1h30 of walking, you will reach the first lookout point, where you can see the Grey Glacier in the distance. Then, after 1h30/2h more, you will arrive at the main lookout, right in front of the impressive glacier. The way back is the same all the way to the Pehoé Lake, where you will take the catamaran that crosses the Pehoe Lake at 6.30pm. The boat will drop you off in the Pudeto sector, where your bus will be waiting for you to take you back to Puerto Natales (arrival time to Puerto Natales: approximately 9.30pm).
Packed-lunch during the hike. Transfer to the bus station Puerto Natales, arrival around 9pm. Transfer from the bus station to your hotel.

N.B.: It is important on this day to time your walk well, in order to be on time for the departure of the catamaran.
