A perfect introduction to Chile: begin your exploration in the lively capital city of Santiago before visiting the delightful town of Valparaiso, with its colorful wooden houses and winding cobbled streets, built on 27 different hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean. You will then head up North, to the Atacama Desert, with its breathtaking landscapes, enormous salt-flats, extraordinary colors and authentic Atacameña culture.

DAY 1 - SANTIAGO

Arrival at Santiago airport, pickup by your driver / guide, and transfer to your hotel to drop-off your luggage.
Lunch in a restaurant at the Central Market. Departure with your English-speaking guide for a city tour of Santiago.
The tour will include the Constitution Square, the Presidential Palace, La Moneda, to arrive at the Libertador Bernardo O’Higgins Square. On the Plaza de Armas, you will find the Cathedral of Santiago. Heading East, you will pass the Balmaceda Park and walk along the Mapocho river; you will see the old train station, the Estación Mapocho, built by Gustave Eiffel and today a cultural center. The visit will end on the top of the San Cristobal Hill, from where you will be able to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the city.
Return to your hotel and check-in. Dinner and overnight at your hotel in Santiago.

DAY 2 - SANTIAGO / VALPARAISO / SANTIAGO

Breakfast at the hotel
In the morning, departure with your English-speaking guide for Valparaiso and Viña del Mar: 75 miles (120km) north of Santiago (around 1:45 of travel on a good paved road, Highway 68).
Shaped as an amphitheater facing the ocean, Valparaiso was built on dozens of steep hills overlooking the Pacific and boasts a labyrinth of streets and cobblestoned alleyways, which make up an architecturally and culturally rich legacy. Declared by the World Monuments Fund as among the 100 most endangered historical treasures, the 15 old funicular lifts will allow you to discover the different “cerros” (hills) more easily in this steep cityscape. The city is nicknamed “The Jewel of the Pacific”.
Your visit will continue towards Viña del Mar, also known as “La Ciudad Jardín” (The Garden City), which is the beach resort and also a residential area of Valparaiso.
Lunch in a local restaurant during your visit. Return to Santiago. Dinner at the hotel. Overnight in Santiago.

DAY 3 - SANTIAGO / CALAMA / SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Calama (approximately 2 hour flight). Arrival at Calama airport, pick-up and transfer to your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama. Lunch in a local restaurant. Check into your rooms after lunch
You will have some free time during the afternoon to explore the village on your own
Late afternoon, departure to the Moon Valley to contemplate the patterns formed by erosion and covered with a thin layer of salt – these amazing formations were caused by the existence of an ancient lake and by the erosion from water and wind. In this silent landscape, you will experience one of the most beautiful sunsets that you’ve ever seen.
Return to San Pedro around 8PM. Dinner in a local restaurant. Night at your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama.

DAY 4 - SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA

Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to visit the Atacama Salt Lake.
In the heart of the Atacama Desert, the most arid are on Earth, the air is extremely dry which makes it perfectly transparent and allows you to see all the way across to the other side of the flat. Under the salt flat, there is a salty lake, hidden by the salts solid crust. Here live three different types of flamingoes: Andean flamingoes, Chilean flamingoes and James’ flamingoes.
We will then continue along the road, with sumptuous views of the Licancabur Volcano, to visit the village of Toconao, a little colonial village with picturesque stone houses and the old church of San Lucas, and where the tradition of building houses in liparite, a volcano rock is perpetuated. Continue along the road to the Chaxa laguna where a large variety of flora has adapted to the desert climate. The fauna is mainly composed of Andean and Chilean flamingoes, as well as Andean gulls.
Visit the Jerez Valley: and the Miscanti and Meñiques lagoons, located at 4300 meters (2671 feet) above sea level, in the National Andean Flamingo Reserve, where you will have a spectacular view over the high plateaus.
Lunch in a typical restaurant along the way. Return to San Pedro de Atacama. Dinner in a local restaurant. Night in a hotel in San Pedro de Atacama.

DAY 5 - SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA / CALAMA / SANTIAGO

Departure early in the morning (around 5 a.m.) for the Tatio Geysers, located at 14,100 feet (4300m): arrival at sunrise, a time when the geysers are the most spectacular.
With nearly 80 active geysers, El Tatio is the largest place of this kind in the southern hemisphere. Because of the large number of geysers, they are not very high. The eruption of the highest geyser reaches about 20 feet (6m). It is best to visit this area at dawn because of the temperature differences (it can freeze at -4° F [-20° C]) allow us to admire the steam chimneys.
Picnic breakfast in the middle of the geysers. Then, visit of Machuca village. Return to San Pedro de Atacama around noon.
Final transfer to Calama’s airport for your flight back to Santiago. Arrival in Santiago, pick-up at the airport and transfer to you hotel. Dinner and night at your hotel in Santiago. Night in Santiago.

DAY 9 - SANTIAGO

Breakfast at the hotel. At the appropriate time, transfer to the Santiago airport for your international flight home. Assistance with boarding formalities and luggage check-in.
